Discussion:
HP ScanJet 2200c with a Mac?
(too old to reply)

On the HP support web page for this scanner, there are no Mac drivers listed.

Has anyone found a way to use this scanner under OS X? Maybe another HP
scanner driver?

I know that VistaScan might support this scanner, but it's available only
under classic.

I see that the Silverfast applications support many different makes of
scanner. But I couldn't find any reference to the 2200c in the web site.

Suggestions for getting this scanner under OS X? I'd settle for a TWAIN
plug-in for photoshop, if I can't find an dedicated scan application.

Thanks,

Lo and behold! The public-domain SANE-TWAIN package for OS X supports this
scanner.

I'm downloading the front end and back end packages right now. I'll report
the success.

Please do follow-up. I'm using TWAIN-SANE with a Mustek ScanMagic and
GraphicConverter and it's incredibly slow (greater than an hour for
some scans). The scanner works fine from the cmdline using SANE's
'scanimage', but is unusable using TWAIN-SANE.

Many people have had success using VueScan:

http://www.hamrick.com/

This program is shareware, not free. IIRC, it will put a watermark
over whatever you scan if you don't register it. This is good enough
to find out if it works with your scanner, but you'll want to
register it if you decide to use it for real.

VueScan is indeed a great program. But it's not available for OS X, only OS 9
and earlier.

Not true.
In an FAQ for Macs on the ViewScan web site, the question "How do I run
ViewScan under OS X" is answered with something like "Run it under Classic".

If you're referring to a TWAIN driver under OS X, that might work, I don't
know. But the stand-alone application is only available for OS 9, according
to their web site.

If you have other information, I'd be *really* interested in hearing about it
: -) .

Thanks,

Um, when was the last time you looked at the FAQ? It sounds like it was
a LONG time ago.

And when is the last time you looked at the web site at all? There's
been an OS X version since at least as long ago as September, 2003, when
I purchased it, specifically to use my scanner under OS X.

In fact, VueScan is no longer being developed for OS 9. The latest
version available for that OS is 7.6.64, whereas the latest OS X
version, 8.1.17, was released, well, today.

About 2 weeks ago. Here it is:

<http://www.umax.com/support/knowledge/search.jsp?docs=SC00190>

Where did you buy VistaScan? Did Umax sell it to another developer? I'd
definitely like to find an OS X version.

Thanks,

Crow-eating time. I've been thinking of VistaScan, not VueScan.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look into VueScan.
