This guy (reportedly a well-known IT jorunalist) says he found a
"vintage printout" from 20 years ago:

To me, it looks like a blatant fake (see the enlarged image...)

What do you all think?

what's fake about it?

the colons for the time stamps zig-zag correctly as if done on a dot
matrix printer. It looks better quality than anything I used as might be
24 pin or whatever the step up from 9 was.

At that time I was using a Brother daisy wheel printer (HR-40?) built on a
typewritter platform, and an Output Technology OTC-800 high speed forms
printer, which I still have.

scanning tends to drop the color cast of old paper giving it the fake
white look, which may be bothering you.

perfect. It can't be real.

What bothers me is that the paper is wrinkled, while the characters are

It looks like a typical scan for me, and it has the correct look for
something done on a dot matrix printer.

a print out of dir is hardly something one would need to fake.
